Writing a Birth Plan

Of my first doctor's appointment I remember three things: The doctor trying to find babies heartbeat (she was still too little to hear it, though); being asked if I would be opting for an epidural - Yes, Please! - she was thrilled by my response; and being told that these women that come up with elaborate birth plans bother the physicians, as usually the things are so specific and will never actually be paid attention to in real life.

I knew that my plan would be simple, because there aren't too many things that I really want to happen, no exceptions. I won't demand mood lighting or soft music - I want to be sure that what really matters to me, those few things, are known and that people try to accomodate me on that. At the end of the day, this baby is coming out whether the lights are bright or dim and I don't really care which it is.

My Birth Plan
-Epidural, Please (although I do not wish to be completely numb)
-Vaginal Birth; C-Section only if there is physical danger threatened to me or my baby. (Not because labor is taking a long time or for any other reason)
-Episiotomy only if necessary
-Baby Girl to be placed on my chest immediately - before she is cleaned up and swaddled. (I want those very first moments to myself)
-A to cut the umbilical cord

What really matters in the end is a healthy, happy and safe baby - so if anything conflicts with that it will be thrown out and we will re-adjust.
