Working it Out

It's been 5 months since I started going to the Y. I have been every week between 3 and 4 days; I took on double workouts, longer cardio sessions and weight training. In that time I have lost 6 pounds and while I wanted to lose 20 pound by March, I think that losing 10 or so will be just as rewarding.

I have had my struggles, lost my motivation, eaten too much and had more fun than my daily caloric allowance has preferred, but I have still been able to consistently keep these pounds off. No matter how badly I wanted to go a week without the gym, I never once did it; and I continued to forge on with my calorie counting. I am definitely proud of myself for all of these things!

For some reason, I have the urge to get into yoga again. I think that the relaxation, stretching and peace that it can bring will be beneficial for me, and since I would otherwise just be sitting on the couch, why not? It is offered at the Y by my house, so after my Wednesday workouts I will drive over there and hit the 7:15 class, finish at 8 and be home around 8:10 for dinner and to wrap up the day. If only there were more hours in the day!

While yoga really doesn't burn the calories, I hope that it will help a bit with my leg issues. I have had shin splints and just constant leg pains when I run that could possibly be from not stretching enough? I am also in desperate need of new shoes, as even my feet are killing me when I run. It has been almost a year since my last pair, so I am definitely over due and thinking about splurging on some insoles for my next pair.

The cold weather is when most people start to gain weight, I want to successfully avoid this trap!

  1. Five months is most definitely an accomplishment worth recognizing and celebrating. Congratulations! You've made it a part of your life and that really is the goal.

As for your leg pain, definitely try buying some new shoes - maybe that you only use for running.

  2. Thanks! It has been a gradual thing over the past 2 years to work up to the point that I am at now, but I am glad I put the effort in!
